Competitive Intelligence for SEO

IBL Planning Tables

SEO Recon™ provides tables for several IBL factors: Title KWD, Title Count, Text Count, Text KWD, Text Proximity, and Reputation. These tables are designed to help you plan how much link building effort may be required in each of these areas to be competitive with selected targets (other competitors) you specify.

SEO Recon™ provides these qualitative measurements of off-page factors for competitive analysis. Your values for any of these factors may be similar to a given competitor but if their values are based on a number of links that differs greatly from the number of links on which your overall values are based, those values do not have the same significance.

Imagine that you have a 3.9 GPA in school and your friend has a 3.9 GPA as well, but your GPA is based on 5 courses while your friend's GPA is based on 20 courses. Your friend's GPA is more significant and you would need to maintain your GPA over 15 more courses to have on overall standing as significant as that of your friend.

IBL Planning

IBL Planning Table: Definitions

  1. The IBL Factor analyzed for the current table (e.g. IBL Title Keyword Density)
  2. Target URL: The competitors you want compared against each other in each table (up to 10 can be selected).
  3. Count: The number of IBLs that have a value greater than zero for the relevant IBL Factor.
  4. Avg Title KWD: The average of values for the Target URL where the value is greater than zero.
  5. Weighted: The average of values adjusted/weighted based on the count values of the competitors.
  6. The blue column is where you specify up to 10 target URLs you want compared. Once you enter them in the first IBL Planning table, the Target URL columns in subsequent tables will automatically be populated with the same values. (You may need to right-click the 'SEO CI' worksheet tab and "Ungroup" the worksheet before you can enter values into the blue column.)

IBL Planning Table: Interpretation

  • Let's suppose #31 and #32 above correspond to 2 of my own pages I have selected as added comparison URLs.
  • Let's suppose that #4 and #9 above correspond to 2 competitors Recon has told me are close in strength to one or both of my pages.
  • By typing #4, #9, #31, and #32 into the blue column, I can see how many more links I need for #31 in order for my overall IBl Title KWD value to be as significant as that of #4.
    • #31 has 25% and #4 has 16% IBL Title KWD, but comparatively the value for #31 is not really as significant. See the Weight column
    • #31 would need 9 more links of the same quality to have as much significance as #4. See the Count column
